The Edwardsville City Council has given the go-ahead to a new business district to help spur development in a new retail and restaurant center near Edwardsville High School and the SIU-Edwardsville campus. The Town Centre Business District will be located at the southeast corner of Highway 157 and Governor’s Parkway.
The 26-acre development will so far include a Fresh Thyme grocery store, Global Brew Tap House and McAlister’s Deli. There will be a combination of businesses in a main complex as well as outlots. The city approved setting up a 1-percent sales tax on all non-food and non-pharmaceutical items purchased within the district with 95-percent going back to the developer, Edwardsville Town Center LLC. Construction on the $34 million project should begin later this summer with the first tenant scheduled to move in next summer.
