The plan to build a housing complex for low-income people who suffer from mental illnesses in Alton is continuing to gain momentum with the announcement that city has been awarded a 1.5-million dollar grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The remaining 350-thousand dollars necessary to complete funding for the complex will be provided by the Madison County Community Development Department.

The future Amy's Crossing will include the construction of 12 energy-efficient apartments and will be the fourth supportive-living housing complex and the first non-smoking apartment building for Well-Spring Resources. It will be located at 1900 Brown Street, which is directly behind Well-Spring's Yakubian Homes. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
