A Granite City man was sentenced to just under 13 years in prison for a charge related to Distribution of Methamphetamine, according to the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois on Thursday. 39-year-old Shawn A. Thompson was sentenced to 151 months in prison for the charge he pled guilty to on December 3, 2015.
At Thompson's change of plea hearing, he admitted that he and his co-defendant Michael Murphy had sold a police informant an ounce of meth for $2,000 in Granite City on December 11, 2013. Thompson also admitted to selling the drug twice a week for the four months leading up to his arrest. Murphy was also convicted and sentenced to 36 months in prison in January of this year. Evidence obtained in this investigation is credited to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. The OCDETF is designed to bring federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and resources together to identify, target, and dismantle large national and international drug trafficking organizations.
