Illinois American Water is officially taking over sewer operations in Grafton. Approval by the Illinois Commerce Commission earlier this month finalizes the deal that has been in the works about a year. Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson told The Big Z at the time the water company is better suited to efficiently run a system of that size.
Illinois American Water spokesman Karen Cooper tells The Big Z the purchase of the system adds approximately 400 customers to the company's customer base, and they will not notice any negative change.

Illinois American Water began its partnership with the city in 2010 when it began providing water on a sale-for-resale basis in 2010, and eventually purchasing that system a couple of years later. The sale price for the wastewater system was $600,000.
