America’s Central Port District will soon be saying goodbye to Quarry Township, and possibly the City of Grafton. A new Grafton City Council was sworn in at last week’s meeting and one of the first actions they took was to vote to request removal from the Port District. That request would have to be approved by the Illinois General Assembly.
State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) sponsored the bill removing Quarry Township, and wants to make sure the elected leaders in Grafton knows what is potentially at stake.

The executive director of the port district has said in previous interviews with The Big Z the district has never levied taxes, and does not anticipate that changing.
