The launch of a new fish processing plant in Grafton last year did not end well, with neighbors complaining about the smell forcing the plant to close shortly after it began operations.  That was a disappointment for city leaders, who had hoped that would kick start a trend that would generate tax revenue not linked to the tourism industry.

Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson tells The Big Z he would like to see a way to fill in the revenue gaps during the winter months.

The owners of the fish plant will be moving to another location in southern Illinois.  The land that the building sits on was subdivided, as the city hopes to attract more businesses to locate on the property with the help of a new TIF District.
