There will be a couple of fireworks displays in Grafton next week. Three years ago, the fireworks were cancelled, as the staging area was on the baseball field and the river was out of its banks. Last year, the drought was a concern, but the show went on since the town sits riverside. This year, the city-sponsored event will be held on Friday, July 5.
Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson says the launch area will again be at the ballpark, and the Illinois River will provide the backdrop.
Thompson says there will be a festival atmosphere around town, with many businesses offering live music, food and drink. The night before, July 4, there will be a fireworks show sponsored by Aerie's Riverview Winery and music in Grove Memorial Park by the Dixie Dudes - a traditional Dixieland jazz band from 7-9pm.
