America’s Central Port District said goodbye to Quarry Township a couple of months ago, and the City of Grafton may be next. The Grafton City Council has approved a resolution to ask voters in the March election “Should the City of Grafton ask the state legislature to disconnect the City of Grafton from the America’s Central Port District?”
That request would have to be approved by the Illinois General Assembly. Grafton Mayor Tom Thompson tells The Big Z he believes opponents of the district are spreading misinformation.

The executive director of the port district has said in previous interviews with The Big Z the district has never levied taxes, and does not anticipate that changing. Thompson reminds that the question on the March ballot is simply an advisory referendum, meaning the results are non-binding
