The Illinois Department of Transportation is in the early stages of a project that will affect motorists who use Route 140 to get from Alton to Bethalto. A $5.4 million project will repair the pavement and resurface Illinois Route 140 from Annex Street near the Wadlow Statue in Upper Alton all the way to Williams Street in Bethalto, near the Illinois 255 interchange. That work is being complimented by work to improve the entrance to Gordon Moore Park.

The 4.2 mile stretch of highly-traveled road that has seen its share of patching in the past, but is now in the midst of a complete makeover. Alton Public Works Director Brad Cunningham says since the road is going to be completely redone, the time was right to upgrade the entrance to the city's busiest park.

Cunningham comment

The entrance to the park should be done in a couple of months, but the big project end date is targeted for November 30.
