There is a new agreement in the works between Alton and Alton Golf Management as it relates to the operation of the Wadlow Golf Course. Late last year it was announced a portion of the property was being targeted as a potential site for a new multi-modal transportation facility. The City Council could give final approval to a modification to the existing agreement tomorrow night.
While there is no timetable set as to what will happen and when, the city potentially needs access to the facility on short notice, according to City Attorney Jim Schrempf.
He says all parties involved in the process are working well together. The property is expected to host a facility that will encompass a high-speed rail station as well as bus service, and possibly bicycle and walking trails. The rest of the land will see development of retail, office, and residential facilities, as well as keeping a percentage of the land as undeveloped green space.
