Godfrey's new tax levy reduces the total income of the village by 5% again this year. The board cut the levy by 5% last year and 10% the year before that. The cuts have been part of a process spearheaded by Mayor Mike McCormick to eventually eliminate the property tax in the village. The total levy will be $485,636.
Trustees Mike Stumpf and Jerry Gibson voted against the reduced levy. Stumpf explains his vote.
Trustee Mark Stewart says even with the reduction in the levy, the village is in good shape.
The special taxing district for Piasa Hills stays at just over $78,000 this year. It was instituted in 2006 to help residents pay for the sewer upgrade.
