State lawmakers will consider establishing a handful of new enterprise zones around Illinois in 2016, and officials in Godfrey are joining with several other regional governing bodies in applying for one. The proposed plan would also include Jersey and Greene Counties, Grafton, Brighton, White Hall, Carrollton, Roodhouse, and the lead municipality of Jerseyville.

Applications are due in by the end of the year, and the approval process could take about 9 months. An enterprise zone designation typically lasts about 23 years, according to Catalano.
