A Godfrey man is facing prison after pleading guilty to three robberies, including a robbery at the U.S. Bank in Upper Alton earlier this year. 24 year old Joseph E. Schwank also admitted to robbing the Pizza Hut in Alton, and the Domino's Pizza in Bethalto in early March. Schwank faces up to 20 years on each count: robbery and two counts of interference with commerce by robbery.
Federal authorities say Schwank entered the U.S. Bank on Washington Avenue in Alton on March 2 of this year while wearing a large hat and white sunglasses and handed the teller a note demanding money. He fled with more than $1,300. On March 3, he robbed the Domino's Pizza of $53 also while wearing a disguise. On February 23 of this year, Schwank robbed the Pizza Hut on the Homer Adams Parkway, showing an employee a black airsoft gun in his waistband, and fleeing with almost $500. Sentencing is set for September 16 in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis.
