The Village of Godfrey will be expanding Madison County's Code Red weather warning program, to include Boil Orders for residents who receive their water from Brighton Water. Previously, when a boil order was issued, Brighton Water would place signs in the affected area, notify the health department and certain businesses, and issued a press release, but officials were worried that older people or shut-ins would not see the notices. The expanded Code Red service will now be able to reach out to residents with a phone call.
Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick told the Big Z that while it took some work, this is an important program
The Code Red warnings will only apply to residents serviced by Brighton Water, the other water companies that cover Godfrey already have systems like Code Red in place to alert residents to boil orders.
