Godfrey village trustees may soon have guidelines in place as to where a medical marijuana grow facility may be located. The state will issue 21 permits for cultivation centers – or grow operations - and 60 dispensary permits, which will be the sole legal retailers for medical marijuana.
Godfrey Village Attorney Tom Long says no matter the personal stance on the issue, if the state decides there will be facilities in Godfrey, trustees cannot stop it.

The Planning and Zoning Committee will hash out where the operations would fit best in the village, and bring the issue back to the board next month. The new law establishes a four-year pilot program, which will give people with HIV, AIDS, cancer, and other debilitating diseases access to about five ounces of marijuana a month.
