Democrat David Gill is conceding the 13th Congressional District race to Republican Rodney Davis. Gill made the announcement over the weekend, nearly 70 hours after the polls closed. Gill says it's clear that based on the numbers he's seen, that there are not enough uncounted ballots remaining to surpass the deficit he faces in the election.
Davis, for his part, began preparing to take over the seat last week following the election. The 42 year old is a Taylorville resident, and formerly worked in the office of Congressman John Shimkus. He will take over the seat being vacated by Republican Tim Johnson, who stepped down from the election after winning the primary.
