The sign-up for the next enrollment of Get Covered Illinois, the state's health insurance marketplace, begins Nov. 1, and you have until Jan. 31 to avoid a penalty.
“In this third year, the amount of the penalty for folks will have to pay for not having coverage will actually increase,” said Brian Gorman, public education and consumer assistance director for Get Covered Illinois. “Obviously, that is a strong motivator. If you're going to be paying a fine, you might as well pay the premium, and then you're covered that way.”
While you can find someone to help you anywhere in the state, Gorman says $5 million in federal money is helping train helpers through ten agencies, mostly in the Chicago area, and one each in Rockford and the Quad Cities.
