The price of gas is dropping by the day. It’s $3.71 now, the average for Illinois, according to the Triple-A Fuel Gauge Report. That’s down 32 cents from a month ago, when the price was $4.03. “Gas prices have really come down, just in time for Fourth of July. They’ve come down significantly because refineries that were causing the problem are back on-line. Supplies are back to where they should be,” said Beth Mosher of the Triple-A Chicago Motor Club.

The refineries in question were in Indiana and Illinois. They underwent maintenance and repairs, which cut their capacity through the spring and boosted prices throughout the Midwest. The current price is still 21 cents higher than it was last year at this time, when it was $3.50. The average diesel price in Illinois is $3.96.
