The prep work is done and starting Today, you won’t be able to cross the Mississippi River via the Martin Luther King Bridge. The closure goes into effect today at 9am, and will continue as construction crews completely replace the steel grid deck in the middle span, perform structural steel and expansion joint repairs, and paint the bridge.
Scaffold installation has reduced the access to the bridge recently, but this will again be a full closure. Traffic will be detoured to the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge onto the Tucker Avenue Interchange. The Illinois Department of Transportation asks motorists to be patient, reduce speed, watch for stopped traffic, and use additional caution when traveling near this work zone.
