The Pain at the Pump is less painful these days.

The AAA Fuel Gauge report shows a state average of $2.50, which is more than the national average of $2.29.

AAA's Beth Mosher says the semi-annual change in blends is to credit for the relatively low prices in Illinois. The summer-to-winter switch is a drop in prices.

“It's a fairly intricate process of emptying out from the refineries one blend and inserting another, and that can come with some problems or issues,” she says. That's why even though the change is only twice a year, “the change in blends” is what we hear much of the year in talking about gas prices.
