Scammers continue to look at the elderly as targets ripe for the taking. There are a variety of ways these crooks are ripping off seniors, but one of the more common ways is the "Grandparent Scam." Con artists will convince their target that their grandchild has been jailed or gotten into some kind of trouble in a foreign country and desperately needs money wired to them.

The scam has been reported across the country, prompting officials to warn people, especially the elderly, to be wary of anyone who calls asking for large amounts of money. Other scams include false claims of lottery winnings and threats from crooks claiming to be IRS agents.
