(UPDATED:  A previous version misidentified the organization that was allegedly victimized.  This version is correct.  WBGZ apologives for the error) A former Riverbend travel agent has been charged with a trio of felonies in Madison County.  Investigators say 56-year-old Margaret M. Lanier of the first block of E. Delmar Avenue in Alton, is charged with a single count of Theft over $10,000 and two counts of Theft over $500.  She is not in custody.

Lanier owned A.O.K. Travel.  She allegedly took more than $13,000 the women’s group Red Hat Mamas had given her to book a trip to Branson, Missouri in 2014.   According to the charges, she instead used that money for her own personal expenses.  The allegations are similar in the other instances, as they relate to the alleged theft from individuals that had booked trips to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, Nevada, and to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Bond for Lanier has been set at $100,000.
