A Medora man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a minor nearly 18 years ago. 41-year-old Rodney Bailey, who at one time was the Southwestern School District board president, entered the plea on Monday in Jersey County Court and will be sentenced next month. He faces from 3 to 7 years in prison.
Bailey pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of the victim who was under the age of 13 at the time. He was charged last August with three counts of the crime for incidents that dated back to the summer of 1997. Bailey served as the Southwestern School District Board president until May of 2013, and also served in recent years as a junior varsity basketball coach and was the Southwestern Middle School boy’s basketball coach. He also owned a dental office in Carlinville. Authorities say the victims were not connected to his role in the school district. Bailey remains free on bond. Sentencing is set for February 18 in Jerseyville.
