A Jerseyville woman who until about a year ago held a high-ranking office at Jersey State Bank has been sentenced to more than five years in prison. 57-year-old Mary Susan Becker- who had been employed by the bank since 1976- admitted last fall to embezzling $4.4-million from the bank from at least 2003 until January of last year.
Becker began as an assistant cashier, working her way up to a position as a director of the bank holding corporation before becoming the executive vice-president in 2005. She took money from a certificate of deposit account and concealed the money in the bank's ledger, using the money to pay off credit card debt. As a result of the crime, she forfeited property including a home located on Walnut Hollow Court in Jerseyville, two condominiums and a pair of boat slips in Osage Beach,Missouri, various vehicles, and $4.4 million. In addition to the five year and three month prison sentence, and the restitution, she will also be on supervised release for five years.
