A former University of Illinois basketball player is giving back to his alma mater. David Downey, who played for the Illini in the sixties, recently donated $2-million to the school as a “thank you” for turning him into the person he is today. Downey set the record for most points scored in a single game during his playing career, which spanned from 1961 to 1963. His donation will be used to fund renovations to the State Farm Center.
