A union of Illinois firefighters is endorsing Gov. Pat Quinn’s bid for re-election. Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois President Pat Devaney believes Quinn is the better advocate for the state’s working families than Bruce Rauner. “An extremely wealthy man who has actually proposed cutting the minimum wage,” Devaney said. “Imagine how he feels about a prevailing wage or collective bargaining.”

Devaney says he did not discuss pension reform with Quinn while weighing the endorsement. Quinn wouldn’t say whether he supports changes to the retirement benefits for public safety workers. “I believe we have to stand with our firefighters and their right to a decent retirement and decent pension,” Quinn said. The union also endorsed Quinn in the 2010 election. Another public safety group, the Illinois State Police Command Officers Association, is endorsing Rauner.
