The Round Table Restaurant in Godfrey is destroyed and the neighboring Duke Bakery location is closed following an early morning blaze. More that 15 Godfrey firefighters and another half dozen from Fosterburg were called in to fight the blaze. The Assistant Fire Chief in Godfrey believes the building to be a total loss.
While an exact cause has not been determined, Eric Cranmer says the fire started in the back of the restaurant.
The back of the building is where the kitchen and a couple of walk in coolers are located. He says the roof caved in as a result of the blaze, falling into the restaurant's dining area. The Duke Bakery location in Alton remains open and anyone who was supposed to pick up an order in Godfrey can pick it up at the Alton store. There were no injuries reported in the incident.
