A fire early this morning destroyed the former Hood's store on Godfrey Road in Godfrey. The building was not in use as the warehouse business had relocated to the Monticello Plaza last year. The fire broke out around 3am today and Assistant Fire Chief Ron Brooks of the Godfrey Fire Protection District is calling the blaze suspicious, and will continue to investigate the scene.
No injuries have been reported. A passing motorist called 911 to report the fire, and once crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed and nearly destroyed. The burned building is located near the construction of Highway 255 and the split of Highway 67 and 267/111.
