A fire broke out at the Ardent Mills facility in downtown Alton Saturday afternoon, forcing an evacuation of nearly a dozen employees. No one was injured, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters from Alton, Wood River and East Alton were called to the scene. Ardent Mills is the former Con Agra.
The fire broke out after 3pm Saturday on the third floor of the facility. The Alton Fire Department used all 20 firefighters on duty, with off-duty personnel called in to handle other emergency calls. East Alton and Wood River firefighters assisted. West Broadway in front of the mill was closed for several hours while fire crews were on the scene, but no other businesses were evacuated.
