The Wood River Police Department and its architect are finalizing plans for a new police station, and the Police Chief updated the City Council on their progress this week. The new police station will be about 20-thousand square feet and would include a communications center, eight cells, a sally port, a workout room and locker room and a training facility that could be used by other departments.
Wood River Police Chief Otis Steward says he met with the architects in late April to get an update on progress.

The bids should be back near the end of August. Steward hopes to have a groundbreaking scheduled for early September. He says the new police department at the southwest corner of Highway 143 at 6th Street should take about 14 months to complete.
