If you'd planned to head down to the Mississippi River to watch the last piece of steel go into the new bridge at St. Louis, there's no need to rush. MoDOT released a statement late last night saying the installation of the final floor beam has been pushed back from 9:00 this morning until noon. Crews have to finish bolting down an edge girder before the 30-thousand pound beam can be put in place on the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
You can watch the work from the bike trail located by the pump house on the Missouri side of the river. Officials say construction is on schedule and the bridge is still set to open in 2014.
