Today is the first day that candidates for numerous statewide positions can file their paperwork.  Candidates for U.S. Senate, Congress, governor and the General Assembly can try to secure the top spot on the ballot starting at 8:00 at the State Board of Elections.

Much of the attention will be on the race for governor, with four Republican candidates facing off in the G-O-P primary.  Republicans also expect a primary for who will get the chance to take on Senator Dick Durbin next fall.  Locally, candidates may also start filing at the county clerk's office.  The Madison County Clerk is opening one extra day this year, with office hours on Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
