Ameren officials are breathing a sigh of relief today, as the number of outages during the height of Sunday's winter snow was minimal. The utility credits that to many things, including an aggressive maintenance program on its infrastructure as well as tree trimming. One thing that could change the number of outages would be a phenomenon called galloping conductors, according to Ameren's Leigh Morris.
And that can lead to lines coming down. If the power does go out, Morris urges people not to use candles because they can fall over and start a fire. He says it's a good idea to keep at least one light switch on so you know when power comes back on. Morris says if everyone's power comes on except your - first, check the fuse box.
