Illinois farmers enjoyed dry conditions for the week just past, says Mark Schleusener, the state statistician for the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. “The state average was 0.35 inches (of rain) last week, but that's almost a half-inch below normal,” he says. Temperatures were also below normal – more than five degrees.”

While the statewide average for the corn harvest is 77 percent complete, not everybody is close to finishing. “More work to do,” Schleusener says. The soybean harvest is 83 percent finished.
