There are at least three Farmers Markets that operate on a regular basis in the Riverbend, and the one in Alton that is held every Saturday may become more popular with area seniors. The Illinois Senior Farmer's Market is offering a nutrition program that is being carried out locally through Senior Services Plus. If you are 60 or older and living in Madison County, you may be eligible to receive vouchers for free produce through participating vendors.
The markets regularly feature locally grown or produced products including produce, craft items, plants and flowers. SSP's Information Assistance Coordinator Devon Neal:
The Alton market is every Saturday at the corner of Piasa and 9th Street and through mid-October from 8am-noon. For more information, call Senior Services Plus at 465-3298.
