The Third Annual Family Campout at the National Great Rivers Museum at the Mel Price Lock & Dam is coming up May 19, but registration for the event is due this Saturday. For $50, a family of four can camp on the grounds of the facility. Saturday night will feature dinner prepared by the park rangers, with games and other activities that evening. There will be breakfast on Sunday, before campers travel to to Ellis Bay to paddle a kayak, canoe, or a stand up paddleboard.
Natural Resource Specialist Janet Mifflin says while you will be near the river, the site is safe.
Families should bring their own camping equipment including tents, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets and camp chairs. Sunscreen, bug spray and water bottles are also recommended. For more information or to register, call 462-6979.
