The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating the report of two men who posed as Ameren workers to rob a woman's home in Godfrey. Police say a man knocked on a woman's door in the 7500 block of Humbert Road just before 7pm Tuesday, and told her he needed to check the gas meter. After she took him to the outside meter, she became suspicious when she noticed another man sitting in a waiting car.
When she and the suspect returned to the front of the home, the woman asked to see the man's Ameren identification, but he could not produce one. The woman returned to her home and discovered her purse and several other items were missing, and she called police. Deputies believe the second person in the car most likely entered the home and took the items. The suspect pretending to be an Ameren employee is described as a white male with reddish blonde hair, blue eyes, standing about 5 feet 8 inches, with a medium build, possibly early 20s to early 30s, tattoos on his hands and the word LOVE tattooed across the knuckles of one hand. The other suspect was a white male with a ball cap. They were riding in a dark colored passenger car.
