In the cold of February, the people who run the Illinois State Fair are trying to get everyone warmed up. Fair manager Amy Bliefnick and Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Bob Flider announced the theme of the 2013 fair, “Where Illinois Comes Together.” They hosted a preview party early Friday morning on the fairgrounds. The grandstand lineup this year includes Toby Keith and the Band Perry.

Bliefnick said a “V-I-Pit” ticket would be available – at an additional charge – for fans who otherwise would wait on the track as early as 7 a.m. to see their favorite singers. Those ticketholders, Bliefnick said, will be admitted a half hour early and have a reserved spot up front. Bliefnick said in Toby Keith’s case, a regular ticket is $50, and the “V-I-Pit” ticket is $65.
The first Illinois State Fair, in October 1853, charged a quarter admission. This year’s admission fee is $7 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.
The fair opens Thursday, Aug. 8, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 18.
