The historic Old Cathedral in downtown St. Louis near the Arch is undergoing renovation for the first time in over 50 years.  Officially named the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, the 180-year-old church is having work done on the stonework, wooden floors, pews and tile mosaic floor around the altar.

The 15-million-dollar budget for the restoration has not been met, only around six-point-five-million has been raised through private donations.  Associate Pastor and Priest-In-Residence Friar Richard Quirk hopes that all restorations to the cathedral are finished by 2014 in time to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Louis.
