The Illinois House is voting to extend the state's medical marijuana program.  The law allowing the four-year pilot program was signed in 2013, but implementation has taken much longer than expected and medical cannabis is not yet available in Illinois.

With that in mind, Representative Lou Lang of Skokie wants to make sure the four-year clock does not start ticking until the first marijuana dispensary is open.  He says to do otherwise would be unfair to patients.

The Senate must also agree to extend the timeline.  As of April 1st, about 2,000 patients were approved by the state to be eligible to purchase medical marijuana.
