Elected officials can carry guns in public if they complete the peace officer firearms training test. But Republican Representative John Cabello of Loves Park wants to strip them of that right. He says the officials shouldn't have privileges that regular citizens don't have. He pushed a bill through committee yesterday but not everyone is on board with the idea.
Democrat Representative Jay Hoffman (pictured) of Belleville says the officials should be able to carry and protect themselves against disgruntled people.
