An Edwardsville woman has been sentenced to 6 months of home confinement after pleading guilty to Structuring Currency Transactions to Avoid a Currency Transaction Report. The Internal Revenue Service requires any currency transaction exceeding $10,000 to be reported. 57 year old Son Chong Fulton received the sentence for structuring currency deposits to avoid IRS reporting requirements, a federal crime. Court documents indicate Fulton made 64 deposits totaling over $191,800 between January 2014 and August 2015.
Fulton plead guilty to the charge in December of last year. In addition to the 6 months home confinement Fulton was sentenced to 5 years probation and ordered to forfeit the $191,800, pay a fine of $34,185, and pay a special assessment fee of $100.
