An Edwardsville man was sentenced to 108 months in Federal Prison on Wednesday. 38-year-old Jackie H. Townsend Jr. pled guilty to knowingly possessing significant quantities of methamphetamine and heroin with the intent to distribute, in June. Townsend will also have to pay a $500 fine and serve three years of supervised release.
The case against Townsend began when inspectors from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service observed a suspicious Express Mail package. After obtaining a federal search warrant, investigators found the box contained over two kilograms of meth and over 500 grams of heroin as well as roughly two pounds of marijuana. Agents repackaged the box and arrested Townsend when he took possession of the parcel.
