There are at least three e-cycling events being held in Alton today to mark worldwide Earth Day. You can bring your old, unusable electronics to Alton Square Mall from 10am-2pm, Alton Bell Community Credit Union from 11am-1pm, or Alton Middle School from 1-4pm. Electronic recycling has become more commonplace since the start of the year, when new regulations were put in place to keep the items out of Illinois' landfills.
In the past, computer monitors, TVs and printers were required to be recycled, but the new law now in place added items to the list, including keyboards, portable music devices, and scanners. The event at the credit union on Broadway across from Lincoln-Douglas Square also includes a shred day, where you can have your sensitive documents destroyed. Alton Square is part of a bigger Environmental Resource Fair co-sponsored by Lewis & Clark Community College, and Alton Middle School is e-cycling as part of Global Youth Service Day.
