An East St. Louis couple could face significant jail time for attempting to steal nearly $47-thousand in federal student aid.30-year old Antwayne B. Crumble and 29-year old Danyelle T. McNeil have been charged with conspiracy to commit federal student aid fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud after using the personal information of family and friends to obtain federal student aid, including grants and student loans between September 1, 2008 and September 28, 2009.

The pair used information provided by friends and family members to enroll in undergraduate courses at the University of Phoenix. Once accepted, they used that information to apply for federal financial aid, which was split between the couple and the enrollees after it was received.

Crumble and McNeil both pled guilty to those charges Monday and face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250-thousand, up to 3 years of supervised release and a special assessment of $100 when they are sentenced later this year.
