The Mississippi Earthtones Festival will not return to the Alton riverfront this year. Alton Main Street, one of the festival’s organizers, was unable to come to an agreement with the city to host the 9th annual event, so the search is on for a new location. The decision to pull out comes following months of discussion with the city, according to Alton Main Street Executive Director Sara McGibany.
She tells The Big Z the sticking point was concession sales. In the past they were able to offset their costs with those sales, but last year with an exclusive vendor signed on, the city offered a percentage of the sales revenues. McGibany tells The Big Z the city was not willing to do the same this year.

Amphitheater Commission member Robert Stephan tells The Big Z the commission supported waiving the facility rental fee for the event.

McGibany says there have already been a couple of offers to host the event at a new location.
