There is little question as to how serious police agencies across the state are about eliminating drunk drivers from the roads, but there are those who will continue to get caught. Holiday weekends are typically dangerous times on the roadways, but a drunk driver can wreak havoc at any time. In at least one recent incident, alert motorists phoned in a report of a woman driving erratically, eventually getting arrested just a block away from the Madison County Police Substation in Godfrey.
Sheriff Department Captain Mike Dixon says that doesn't surprise him
At a typical stop, most police will look at the drivers' eyes, ask the subject to perform the walk and turn test, and the one legged stand test. Based on how the subject does with those three, he or she could be asked to submit to a breathalyzer.
