State Representative Bill Mitchell, from Decatur, says some of his colleagues have criticized his plan to have welfare recipients tested for drugs. They claim he's picking on people who are down on their luck. So, to counter that argument, Mitchell says lawmakers should get tested for drugs too.
Mitchell realizes getting it will be an uphill climb to get the proposal through the legislature, especially with Democratic Super majorities in both the House and Senate. Mitchell says up to four million Illinois' residents may be eligible for state assistance once the Affordable Care Act is implemented. He says lawmakers should consider his proposal as a way to save the state money.
