An Edwardsville man who was once a business owner in downtown Alton has been sentenced to four years probation after pleading guilty to drug possession.  65 year old Kirk Myers could have faced between 3 and 7 years behind bars, but Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli opted for the probation term for the former owner of Harris’ Downtown Tavern.

The case against Myers stated Alton Police conducted a covert drug operation at the business in December of 2010 in which Myers sold cocaine to a confidential informant on two occasions.  Authorities say they also seized more than 22 grams of cocaine and $38,000 in cash when they executed a search warrant on December 17, 2010.  Myers has been free on bond since shortly after his arrest and pleaded guilty to a count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in exchange for other drug related charges being dropped.
