Illinois Department of Transportation flight safety coordinator Joe Samudovsky says an estimated 1 million drones will be purchased this holiday season. And it's not just an expensive toy, it's a tool whose hazards must be respected.

“It is a flying object. Any object flying through the air, especially at low altitude, does have some risks,” Samudovsky says. “That is why we have a set of safety guidelines we want people to follow.”
They include: keep the drone no more than 400 feet off the ground; keep the drone in sight; don't get it within five miles of an airport without contacting that airport.
